Our lovely park has been through many changes recently. With our Friends of Doxford Park volunteers working really hard to make sure the park looks as good as it can at all times.

Sadly, you may have heard about the devastating fire that has destroyed the White Cottage at the park entrance. Sunderland Area Parent Support (SAPS), who used the building, has had lots of support from the community. It really does pull together in times of need – and is massively appreciated.

In more positive news, Back Into Nature have started their stay and play sessions in the park – and they are a hit! If you haven’t already checked them out, you can find out more on their Facebook page

The pond has been cleared and one of the big trees  – which can just be seen in the photo above, crossing the path – has been removed as it was no longer safe. The hedge between the paddock and the walled garden has been cut back a little, and now replicates the way it used to be.

We have been installing lots of bat and bird boxes around the park so keep looking out for those. And, finally, we have been sprucing up the training room with a splash of paint, new carpet and a new door (meaning we no longer need to freeze with the shutter open during meetings!). We will soon be renting out the space for meetings and training sessions – more on that will follow soon!

So, that’s all for the winter update – we are looking forward to seeing the park bloom through spring, and hope to see you enjoying the park and the hard work of the Friends of Doxford Park.
